Ceremony commemorating the victims of the disaster in Crans-Montana

On the day of national mourning in Switzerland, I took part in the commemoration of the victims of the Crans-Montana disaster.

This tragic fire has profoundly shaken the Swiss Confederation and the whole of Europe. The victims were mostly young people, leaving behind families and loved ones plunged into immense pain.

Belgium also mourns the loss of a young woman. As the Prime Minister and on behalf of the Federal Government, I would like to offer our sincere condolences to her family and to everyone affected by this tragedy. Our thoughts are also with all the Belgian citizens who have been injured, as well as their friends and families.

In the spirit of European solidarity and friendship that unites Belgium and the Swiss Confederation, our hospitals have taken in several of those injured in the catastrophe. I would like to pay tribute to the outstanding commitment of our medical teams and all the services who assisted in the operation.
