Visit of the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem

Today, I had the honor of welcoming U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem to the Port House in Antwerp.
Our meeting took place on the eve of the 9/11 commemorations — a moment that reminds us of the importance of vigilance, resilience, and international cooperation in the face of terrorism and organized crime.
Belgium and the United States share a strong commitment to strengthening security and protecting our societies against cross-border threats such as drug cartels and international criminal networks. These groups know no borders, and only through close collaboration can we disrupt their operations and safeguard our communities.
Together, we discussed enhancing port security and imposing safety standards globally.
The presence of Secretary Noem and her delegation underlines the recognition of Belgium’s pioneering role in the fight against organized crime. The United States will always find in Belgium a loyal and reliable ally — in defending both our trade interests and the security of our people.
Two nations, one goal: open for business, closed for crime.
